From self-tapes to our own story

TheJourney

Same people. A different route.

How it began

A chance meeting, a shared love of storytelling and self-tape sessions in the countryside just outside London.

What began as two actors helping each other with auditions became a conversation about the kinds of stories they wanted to tell. After helping each other with self-tape auditions, they decided to create something of their own.

We're documenting the creative process behind our first short film, the discoveries, the challenges and the people who help us bring it to life.

Our timeline

01 · We met

Living about 20 minutes apart, Jess and Andi found each other because they both needed someone local to read with them in person for their self-tape auditions.

02 · Self-tapes and ideas

We helped each other prepare auditions and make scenes for casting directors.

03 · A new idea

We asked, why not create something of our own?

04 · The script

Not Expecting This Trip began to take shape, a comedy-drama about a complicated family journey.

05 · What's next

We're developing the screenplay and meeting potential creative collaborators and producers. Production and festival plans will be announced when confirmed.

Our vision

We want to make a funny, emotionally honest film that connects with audiences and celebrates character-driven British storytelling.

Our longer-term ambition is to build on the experience of this short, continue creating original screen work together and develop feature films in the future.
